Experience

I have extensive experience working with elementary and middle school aged children. After I graduated from Bates College (Maine), I was employed by Girls, Inc., which is an organization that provides after school programming for elementary and middle school girls. I also was accepted into the AmeriCorps program, tutoring ten 6th grade students. Specifically, I helped them improve their math and reading grades as well as their study and organizational skills. As a student teacher, I am teaching a first grade class and a combined 4th/5th grade class.I am able to tutor traditional elementary subjects, math, reading, English, and social studies. My undergraduate degree is in religious studies, and I therefore can also tutor religious studies. I can also help students prepare for both ISEE and SSAT exams.I think that every student has the potential to be successful. The key to student success is strong reading and math skills. In math, it is especially important to keep students engaged. I am able to engage the students by constantly seeking out new, fun ways to teach math.When I am not in school or teaching, I am enjoying a good book, baking, quilting, or kayaking.
